Biodiversity Day at St Nathy's College - May 2024

Anita McNicholas, Garden Centre Manager at Homeland Ballaghaderreen had the pleasure of being invited to St Nathy's College, Ballaghaderreen to take part in their Biodiversity day on Thursday 16th May 2024.

The Green Committee along with their teachers, Ms Munnelly and Mr O'Nulláin, took part in some workshops facilitated by special guests including Anita.

Anita worked with some of the 1st year students today to sow Zinnia, Ragged Robin and Nastursium seeds - all of which are excellent pollinator friendly plants. Anita also showed the group how to make biodegrable pots using old newspapers. These are an ideal option for sowing seeds in the greenhouse and can be planted straight into the ground/planters once seedlings are ready.

Anita also assisted the students in planting their own sunflwers to take home - we cannot wait to hear of the results and see who has nurtured the tallest one!

Thank you to St Nathy's College for arranging a great day - take a sneak peak of the activity below.
