Oenothera tetragona is a naturalistic hardy perennial that blooms from May until September, it produces sunny, yellow-coloured flowers that bear red-tinged buds and stems. Each bloom boasts a heavenly scent, measures 3 inches in width and sits amongst slender, glossy green leaflets. It enjoys a sunny position to grow, is low maintenance and would sit well in a cottage, wildlife or scented garden. This Oenothera adds a splash of vibrancy wherever placed and will develop in height to around 80cm and spread to around 40cm.

Grow in light, freely draining soils in full sun.

Sowing Information

Germinate February to May at 18-20C (64-68F) on the surface of a good free draining, damp seed compost. Apply a fine sprinkling of vermiculite, but do not cover the seed completely. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag until after germination which usually takes 14-21 days.

Transplant seedlings, when large enough to handle into trays or 7.5cm (3in) pots. Grow on in cooler conditions for at least 14 days before planting out. Plant outside after all risk of frost, 30cm (12in) apart.
