Sligo GAA club championships throw in with backing from Homeland

This weekend sees the opening rounds of club championship football in Sligo for 2024 with the throw in for the Homeland Senior Championship.

It will be the fifth year of support from Homeland as partners of the Championship since coming on board in 2020.

Coolera Strandhill will start this year’s competition as defending Homeland Senior Football Champions having taken over the mantle from Tourlestrane who had captured the Homeland Senior Football Championship for an unprecedented seven consecutive years previously.

The Homeland Senior Championship, the blue riband of club football in any county, is expected to be the most competitive in years with lifting of the standards across all clubs buoyed by Sligo GAA’s investment in coaching and development across the county which is also behind recent success for Sligo’s adult and underage county teams.

Sligo GAA Chair Sean Carroll says that he is really looking forward to this year’s competition. “The standard of play last year was the best that we had seen in many years and we were delighted to see a huge crowd for a memorable finals day at Markievicz Park.

I am really excited for the games that we will see over the coming weeks The success of our county starts with the tremendous work that is going on in all our clubs. There is a lot of work away from match day in every club and the mix of the investment in coaching by Sligo GAA with the outstanding commitment that we are seeing from clubs is creating opportunities for better games and more enjoyment at all levels.

I want to thank our sponsors from Homeland. They are very much part of the community across Sligo, and we are very pleased to partner with them in staging a competition that excites and engages our community.  I also want to thank and wish well the many match officials, match day stewards and the volunteers who maintain and prepare our grounds. Thay all play a vital role in staging a competition like this. Without them there would be no games and no competition or grounds in which to enjoy them”

Caroline Millar-Price – Brand Development & Marketing Manager – Homeland added, “Our 8 Homeland stores locations in County Sligo are intertwined with the lives of the players, our own team members and the communities around us. We are looking forward to supporting all teams over the next ten weeks and cannot wait to follow along to award our 2024 Homeland Senior Football Champions!”

The competition shows in this week with four games each in the Homeland Senior championship.
